Introduction

Furio Troiano, founder of Coins&More, is a prominent figure in the world of collecting and craftsmanship. Starting with his personal passion for collecting ancient coins and pocket watches, Troiano has built a company synonymous with quality and attention to detail. In this exclusive interview, he shares his journey, company philosophy, and the challenges he has faced while serving collectors worldwide.

1. How did your passion for collecting begin, and what inspired you to found Coins&More?

As a collector of ancient coins and pocket watches, I quickly realized that the market offered only poor-quality products made from materials like plastic and pressed cardboard. I was dissatisfied both from a qualitative and aesthetic point of view. So, I started creating my own containers using materials that wouldn’t harm the preservation of my valuable items. This marked the first step toward founding Coins&More.

2. When did you realize that your products could become a business?

After analyzing the market and studying materials in-depth, I started creating containers for my collection. Social media and word-of-mouth from fellow collectors helped a lot, and demand grew quickly, prompting me to turn my passion into a business by founding Coins&More.

3. How would you describe your creative process?

The creative process comes naturally: I listen closely to my customers, draw inspiration from their needs, and sometimes spend sleepless nights thinking about new solutions. Once the product is conceptualized, I sketch a preliminary project. Then, we move on to the final design with measurements and materials, and finally, my team and I create the first sample in our workshop.

4. What were the main challenges you faced?

Challenges are always there. In the early years, the biggest challenge was standing out with a product that met customer expectations. Later, it became crucial to maintain the highest quality for each piece while staying up-to-date with new collections and industry trends.

5. What materials do you prefer to use, and why?

We exclusively use wood from FSC-certified forests. Wood is a natural material that exudes warmth and security. Our style often has a vintage appeal, and velvet is the best choice for preserving valuable items. It’s elegant, soft to the touch, and provides a secure environment for collectors.

6. Does Coins&More offer product customization?

Yes, all of our products can be customized. We offer laser engraving or screen printing on wood for text, heraldic crests, dates, or almost any design a client wishes. Recently, we’ve also introduced hot stamping directly on velvet, which has been highly appreciated by jewelers across Europe.

7. How important are collaborations with government institutions, museums, and jewelers for Coins&More?

We work with government institutions, museums, auction houses, and jewelers worldwide. These collaborations are crucial for our business because they involve large orders, which drive us to maintain the highest quality standards. As I often say, “Haste does not go hand in hand with quality.”

8. What are the most requested products?

Our most requested products are wooden cases, both with glass lids and closed tops, depending on collectors’ preferences. Many merchants request wall or table displays for fairs and conventions, while large collection owners opt for bespoke fine furniture.

9. How do you see the future of Coins&More?

Looking ahead, we are committed to maintaining the pace, constantly improving, and staying in tune with our customers’ needs. We have many innovations planned for next year, and we will continue expanding to meet the demands of our loyal customers.

10. What message would you like to convey to readers?

The message I’d like to convey is that, in addition to a little luck, success requires passion, dedication, and perseverance. I firmly believe in passing down the arts and manual trades because only by doing so can we ensure the continuity of craftsmanship.
